Baby African Giant Pyxie Frogs
$34.99
These get big!
Male pyxies, (unlike most species of frogs), grow larger than the females, attaining sizes of up to 10 inches. These ’08 captive bred babies are quarter to half dollar size, but will grow rapidly. They are taking small to medium size crickets and red worms. Despite their large size, they do not require a sophisticated terrarium. A 15-gallon tank will house a single frog, up to adult size. Provide a substrate that will allow burrowing and a bowl of fresh water. Daily misting will also be appreciated. Must be housed individually.

These attractive amphibians may live up to 10 years. Adult male size is around 3 inches. Adult females grow a bit larger, to about 4 inches. They are insectivores, meaning they eat insects such as crickets, worms, moths, flies, and grasshoppers. (Use caution when feeding wild caught insects; they may contain pesticides.) Avoid fireflies and ladybugs.
These terrestrial frogs are native to Madagascar, where they inhabit lowlands, swamps and shallow pools. Your terrarium temperature should range from 64 up to 80°F. A large bowl of fresh water should be available at all times. Provide a soft substrate for your frogs to burrow into; damp but not too wet. Terrarium should be misted once or twice daily with dechlorinated water to keep the substrate from drying out.

Distribution: Rainforests of South America
Size: Up to 5".
Life Span: About 6 years
Diet: Pac–Man frogs have teeth and will attempt to eat anything that moves. Their diet consists mainly of crickets and other insects. Food items should be dusted with a calcium supplement. Fish and small mice can also be offered to larger frogs.
Habitat: Pac–Man frogs prefer a temperature of about 72 F to 82 F. 10 to 12 hour periods of light is plenty. Incandescent lights have a tendency to dry out the skin of frogs so it is best to use fluorescent lighting. The humidity requirements are high so be sure to mist your terrarium frequently. An aquarium of at least 10 gallons is needed to house a Pac-Man frog. A lid is also required so it does not escape. Be sure to provide a substrate that will allow burrowing. The skin of Pac-Man frogs is very sensitive so take special care when deciding on the items to place in the habitat (plants, substrate, etc).
